The Mending Journal series is a collection of visual annotations exploring the intricate relationships between human resilience, societal structures, and the personal beliefs that shape our perception of crisis. Created through a lens of inquiry and cognitive optimism, these works reframe the experience of disruption as an opportunity for transformation.
In this body of work, I utilize materials for their symbolic weight: the fragility of organic matter paired with 24K gold leaf to honor imperfection; financial archives marked with rhythmic, pulse-like notations to trace the instability of global systems; and layered drawings on carbon paper that act as encrypted repositories for unspoken thoughts.
This series investigates the tension between the immediate shock of rupture and the slow, disciplined labor of repair. From the isolation of "individual lights" to the collective effort of mending, the Journal creates a space for reflection and comfort—challenging limiting perspectives to reveal the beauty and endurance found within the cracks of our shared reality.
